Pole dancing is a type of exercise that can be performed on or around a vertical pole. The phrase ‘pole dancing’ is an umbrella term, which covers all of the different types of pole fitness. The three most common and popular types of pole dancing are Pole Sport, Pole Art and Exotic Pole.
Pole Sport is extremely popular with men, women and children, who train hard to strengthen their bodies and inspire others with their complex and powerful pole tricks. It typically consists of moves and tricks without any element of sexuality or dance. It’s similar to an Olympic gymnast’s routine, but involving a vertical pole. Pole sport performers can be seen performing flips, handstands, dead lifts and handsprings, to name a few. Pole athletes need vast amounts of strength and flexibility to do these moves. Everyone can learn how to do this with lots of practice. Have you ever watched the Olympic Games and wished you could do what the gymnasts do? If you answered ‘yes’, then pole sport is the best pole fitness option for you. The majority of pole athletes today want to see pole sport at the Olympic Games.
Currently, there are events for these sports people to compete in such as the International Pole Sports Federation and World Pole Championships. There are many rules that competitors have to adhere to for example what their performance must and must not contain and what type of costume they can wear. Their outfits are usually skimpy, as exposed skin is important for gripping the pole. Famous Pole Sport artists include Alex Schukin, Oona kivela, Rafaela Montanaro and may more.
Pole Art, also known as contemporary pole dancing is the type of pole that people with a history of dance would prefer. Many break dancers, ballet dancers, and contemporary dancers became pole artists once they had discovered pole fitness. If you can, search online for a pole art video. Famous
pole artists include; Marlo Fisken, Anastasia Stutorova, Evgeny Gershilov, Marion Crampe, Hannah Rose Kaynes, Kristy Sellars. To make pole art easier for you to imagine, I would describe it as contemporary dancing made extraordinary by using a vertical pole. In my opinion, everyone should try this pole regardless of whether you do other types of dance. If you enjoy getting lost in music then pole art is for you. Pole Art competitions are very popular because artists have more freedom in their routine in contrast to the IPSF where rules are stricter. They are also allowed more freedom to choose what they wear, how they design their stage and any special effects they want to use to enhance the theme of their performance.
Last but not least is Classique Pole. Also known as Exotic, Sexy or Sultry Pole dancing. The moves that exotic pole dancers do are probably some of the hardest because the performer has to perform with confidence and flare. Exotic pole dance still consists of moves that require a lot of strength, with the added challenge of wearing high heels! Exotic pole dance is probably the closest to stereotypical pole dancing. In a sultry class, most people wear high heels to enhance the length and the look of their legs. If you want to feel sexier and more confident, I highly recommend trying sexy pole dance. You will learn tips, tricks and dances which men and women haven’t always been able to access so easily. It’s only recently become socially acceptable to express ourselves through pole dance in this way. Search online for some of these famous exotic dancers; Olga Koda, Eva Bembo, Mischelle Shimmy, Daria Che.
